GLP-1 Medications for Weight Loss

Before starting any GLP-1 medication for weight loss, patient safety is our top priority. All individuals must complete a Candidacy Check to determine whether GLP-1 therapy is appropriate and safe based on medical history and current health status.

This screening helps ensure that treatment is medically appropriate and aligned with established clinical guidelines.

Who May Qualify for GLP-1 Treatment

To be considered for GLP-1 weight loss medications, patients must meet all of the following basic eligibility criteria:

  • Age: 12 years or older

  • Pregnancy Status: Not currently pregnant and not planning to become pregnant

  • Breastfeeding Status: Not currently breastfeeding

  • Body Mass Index (BMI): Greater than 24

  • Diabetes Type: Must not have Type 1 diabetes

Medical History Requirements

For safety reasons, patients must not have a personal or family history of the following conditions:

  • Pancreatic cancer

  • Medullary thyroid cancer

  • Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type II (MEN II)

These conditions may increase the risk of serious side effects when using GLP-1 medications.

Why the Candidacy Check Is Required

GLP-1 medications are powerful, prescription-based treatments that affect appetite regulation, blood sugar, and metabolic processes. Completing the Candidacy Check allows our medical team to:

  • Protect patient safety

  • Identify potential risks or contraindications

  • Ensure compliance with medical guidelines

  • Determine whether a doctor consultation is required

Patients who do not meet eligibility requirements may still have access to alternative weight loss or wellness options that do not require GLP-1 therapy.
